Childhood/Background: Zane spent time growing up in more than 12 different Foster Care homes. He's never known or met his real parents, and he never seemed to consider any of his foster parents his real parents. Whenever he asked about his paternal parents it seemed like each foster parent would tell him a different story. Many of them said they died right after he was born, some said that didn't want him dropped him off at the Foster Care Agency. Zane didn't believe any of the stories people told him about his parents. He believed they were out there looking for him, the same way he would dedicate his life to finding them.
Zane's passion to investigate his past is what eventually ended up shaping his future. His early school years were were filled with days of being bullied and picked on. Many kids would make fun of him and call him an orphan, human trash and the like. Even though Zane was picked on frequently and even beaten up atl times, he never acted out in an agressive manner. He had a way of calming himself down in even the most difficult of circumstances. Instead of letting people's apparent hatred toward him cause him to become angry and bitter, he became more focused and resolved in his demeanor. He sought to understand why people felt the way they did.
He began studying the human phycosis at the age of 13. He wanted to understand better why people thought the way they did, and acted the way they acted. His defense from people that were targeting him was to play mind games with them. When encountered by another child that was threatning him, he would begin to ask them a series of complicated questions. The goal was to confuse, then evade the situation all together without resorting to violence. He would use this same tactic when dealing with his foster parents. Zane's ability to read people, environments, and situations turned from a hobby, into his ultimate passion.
In High School Cross excelled as a Parrises Squares player. Nicknamed "Thor" for his ability to punish teams with his ion mallet, Cross gained instant notoriaty with some of the top Parrises Squares Academy's in the Country. Even though he loved the popularity that came with excelling at Parrises Squares, Cross eventually decided to enlist in the Star Fleet Academy to pursue his dream of becoming an Intelligence Officer.
Academy History: Life at the Academy was much different for Zane than his life growing up. Within the first year Zane had become one of the Academy's brightest and best Petty Officers. During his time at the academy Zane excelled in the area Forensic Science and Data Analysis.
Career History: Fresh out of Star Fleet Academy Cross received a promotion to Intelligence Officer. On his first mission as IO Cross spent more than 18 months undercover on Planet Vulcan. Not many people in the Federation know the details of his mission there, but he was credited with preventing the assassination of high ranking Vulcan Ambassodor. To this day he is treated like a king on Vulcan, and has forged relationships with every high ranking official on the planet.
As with most IO's in the Federation, specific details of their missions are kept in classified files, and most of what happens during the mission is only known by the officer themself. Even though the details of Cross's missions aren't completely known, they have not gone without merit. By the age of 27 Cross was one of the most highly decorated low ranking officers in the Federation. Before long Cross was approached with opportunity of a lifetime.
While serving as a Lieutenant on the USS Alliance, Cross was approached by Section 31 to serve as Lt. Commander of the USS Maelstrom. Cross jumped at the opportunity of the promotion, and seemed eager to be involved in some of the covert operations that were normally tied to Section 31.
Personality: Cross has been described as a very cold and calculated person. Some would say you have to be that way in his line of work. Cross on the other hand would say that he is a very focused and determined person when it comes to his professional life, but in his personal life he is laid back and does his best to enjoy the little things in life.
Hobbies, Interests, Misc: Most interests in Cross's life revolve around his job. He has a real passion for completing the mission. He enjoys visiting strange and unusual planets, meeting new species, and learning new languages. He enjoys watching and betting on sporting events. He tries to stay out of political issues as his job does not allow him to have a bias toward any specific political or religious affiliations.
Cross has never been married and currently has no love interests. He's never stayed in one place long enough to create an emotional relationship with anyone. He has many fans but few friends. His hope is that he will spend many years on the USS Maelstrom so that he can create some of those relationships his life has lacked in the past.
